Changing Your Outlook Express Settings For Pelican Coast e-mail

Step 1

Open Outlook Express

Select the Accounts option from the Tools pull-down menu.

Step 2

In the Internet Accounts windows highlight the Mail tab and click on the account you wish to change.

Click on the Properties Button on the right side of the window to change the settings for that account.

Step 3

On the General Tab of the Account Properties window, make sure that your new e-mail address is entered correctly.

You must show your full e-mail address

IE:  yourname@pelicancoast.net

The Name field is used to sign your e-mails in the sender information on outgoing e-mails.  You can enter anything you wish here but we suggest using your name as opposed to nicknames.

Step 4

On the Servers tab of the Account Properties windows, make sure that your Incoming mail server is shown as a POP3 server.

Your Incoming mail server should be:

MAIL.PELICANCOAST.NET

Your Outgoing mail server should be:

MAIL.PELICANCOAST.NET

Your Account Name is your FULL e-mail address including the portion after the @ sign.

For example -  jsmith@pelicancoast.net

NOTE:  If you intend to access our e-mail server from a connection other than our dial-up lines (for example a DSL or satellite connection), please remember to check the box that says "My server requires authentication".  It won't hurt if you check the box even if you do connect via one of our dial-up lines but if you don't check the box and do try to access us while "off-network" you will NOT be able to send e-mail.

Step 5

Normally nothing needs to be changed on the Connection Tab unless you use a different connection from the browser default.

Step 6

In the Security tab, you should make sure that the Algorithm  box says 3DES.

Step 7

In the Advanced tab section the Outgoing mail port number should be 25

Incoming mail (POP3) should be 110

In the Delivery section,  please DO NOT check the box Leave A Copy Of Messages On Server.  This will clutter your mail box, take up valuable space on our servers and slow down e-mail processes for everyone.

Step 8

When all of your changes are made, you can click the OK Button at the bottom of the window to save all of the changes.

Step 9

Repeat the above steps for each e-mail account in the Mail tab section.

When all accounts have been changed, click on the CLOSE button in the lower right corner of the window.

Step 10

Close Outlook Express and then re-open it to reset the program.

Click the Send\Recv button in the toolbar to test your setting changes.  E-mail should send and receive without error messages.  If you get error messages, you should re-check all of your entries for each account.
