Adjusting the New TurboNet Plus Accelerator
 

Verifying That The Proxy Server settings are correct -

To verify that the Accelerator is set up correctly, open your Internet Explorer (or Netscape) and verify that the Use A Proxy Server checkbox is checked.

To find that area in Internet Explorer, click on the TOOLS menu and select the Internet Options option. It will open the Internet Options window. Select the CONNECTIONS tab and click on the Pelican Coast entry in the Dial-up Connections box. Click on the Settings button to the right of that box and this window should appear. Make sure the Use a proxy server . . . checkbox is checked. Un-checking this box will circumvent the Accelerator and slow your browsing speed.
 

 
Verifying the Proxy Server Settings -

Clicking on the Advanced button in the Proxy Server section of the Pelican Coast Internet Settings window will show you the proxy settings for the Accelerator. DO NOT CHANGE THESE SETTINGS. Only the HTTP: setting needs to be set to 127.0.0.1 and port 6198 The other settings may be blank.

 
Adjusting the Accelerator -

To Turn off the Accelerator -
Right-Click on the Accelerator Icon in the Task Bar
and select the Disable Option

The icon indicates that your Accelerator has been disabled.

To re-enable it, Right-click on the icon and select the Enable option.  The Accelerator icon on the Task Bar should return to this.

 


 
The Status Window -

Using the procedure described above to open the Accelerator Icon pop-up menu, can check the status of your Internet Accelerator session.  The Status Option will indicate the current status of the Accelerator. Notice that it also show the Access Code. With progressive use, the Effective Speed indicator will show the approximate usable speed of the connection with acceleration applied. It will also show the number of Popups suppressed during that session.

 

Adjusting the Acceleration Settings
 

The default setting for Acceleration is GOOD QUALITY. Changing to Fair Quality will speed up browsing but may marginally decrease the quality of the we page graphics as they load. Each step down the options will make browsing faster but you may see some loss of picture clarity on some web sites at Maximum Acceleration.

Selecting the settings option from the pop-up menu allows the user to adjust the settings for blocking Animated GIFs (animated web pictures) and stop Flash animations.  Clicking both of these settings will leave blank blocks on the web page display that are normally ads.

 

 


 
The ADVANCED Tab 

The Advanced features let you accelerate e-mail, News sites and File Transfer sites (FTP).  Select these options by clicking on the checkbox to put a checkmark in the box to improve the speeds of these features.
The AD BLOCKER Tab 

This area let's you block annoying pop-up and pop-under pages that usually contain advertising messages.  To stop these ads click on the highlighted checkbox as show. 

Please Note:  Some web sites use pop-up pages for legitimate content.  The aggressiveness options tell the program how strict to be in blocking this type of activity.  Maximum will probably block all pop-ups.  If you click on a page and it doesn't open up a new page as expected, you may want to check this setting and lower the Aggressiveness to a lower setting.

PARENTAL CONTROL Tab

This is a new feature that allows you to block access to unwanted sites.  Selecting Enable Parental Control will ask you to provide an administration password that will block tampering with your list.  You can then enter the domain names of sites you want to allow or deny access to.

ANTI SPYWARE Tab 

The Scan periodically . . . checkbox will activate our Spyware detection feature and will continuously check for spyware.

The Spyware Trap option will help you shut down any hidden spyware that attempts to access the Internet.

Any detected spyware events will be shown in the Deactivation window.

 

TOOLS Tab

This feature will scan your computer for rogue cookies and related items that could be robbing your computer of processing power or collecting data about you.  Checking Maximum Privacy Protection will help keep you computer free of unwanted spyware.

You can manually run a scan by clicking on the SCAN NOW button on this window.

STATUS Tab

This tab displays your TurboNet Plus information.  Please keep a copy of your Access Code in a safe place in case your computer needs repairs or you replace your computer and need to reload our software.

The Status caption shows you the current status of TurboNet.  It can be enabled and disabled from the task bar.  As you use TurboNet Plus the average Effective Speed will be calculated for you.  Effective Speed is different from line speed.  Your modem will show the actual line connection but the Effective Speed indicator will show how much the actual line connection has been improved by TurboNet Plus.
